Children's Hospital Colorado

HomeVirtual TourLevel 7 Overview

Level 7 is the Brown Bear floor.

The Rick Wilson Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) occupies the entire 7th floor with 48 inpatient beds, an adjacent outpatient clinic, a large infusion center and an anesthesia clinic. Here, you can check in for clinic visits and infusions, or be admitted for inpatient care (hematology/oncology patients will go to 7th Floor West, and those in the Highly Immune-Compromised Bone Marrow Transplant Unit will be directed to 7th Floor East).

Take the family elevators (walk past the glass elevators on Level 1 and this next set of elevators will be right in front of you) to Level 7. When you get off the elevator, the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders check-in desk will be right in front of you and our helpful staff will guide you in the right direction for your child’s care.

Services on Level 7

Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Programs

The CCBD at Children’s Colorado has the region’s only Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program for brain tumor diagnosis and treatment, the only program for teenagers with cancer, the only Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Program, the only pediatric Experimental Therapeutics Program investigating promising new drugs for cancer treatment, and the only Pediatric Onco-Fertility program that helps patients maximize their chances for future fertility from the day that they are diagnosed with cancer.

Helping Kids Heal

The CCBD was specifically designed to help kids heal faster. All of the rooms on the inpatient unit are built to protect highly immune-compromised patients (those with weakened immune systems due to cancer or bone marrow transplant treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy) and have special hepafiltration systems to clean the air.

Each inpatient and infusion room has a Nintendo Wii or Xbox to make the hospital stay a little more fun and help pass the time. Children’s Colorado practices a family-centered care approach by making sure parents and caregivers are comfortable and can be well-rested. The CCBD is equipped with family lounges, laundry facilities, sleep rooms and dining areas.

Clinic, Infusion Center & Procedure Center

The 7th Level of the main hospital has our outpatient clinic for all cancer and blood disorder patients who do not need to be admitted or stay overnight. Within the outpatient clinic is an infusion center, where infusions and transfusions are given to inpatients and outpatients. The procedure center administers anesthesia to CCBD patients to minimize pain and anxiety associated with bone marrow aspirates and lumbar punctures.

Children’s Colorado is the only hospital in the Rocky Mountain region and one of only approximately 12 hospitals in the United States that offers Metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) therapy for kids. MIBG is a treatment for certain types of cancerous tumor cells. Our state-of-the-art MIBG room was designed specifically for this type of therapy. The room’s walls, floor, ceiling and door are lined with lead to keep the radiation inside the room.
